Gergely Dubóczky, conductor
Gergely Dubóczky is the only one from his generation of thirty-something Hungarian conductors who worked together with Zoltán Kocsis and Iván Fischer as well as Ádám Fischer. Besides the traditional repertoire, he is committed to baroque and contemporary music, too. His achievements include the premieres of numerous contemporary pieces as well as performances falling into the category of Gesamtkunstwerk. Furthermore, he is also a frequent contributor to various theatre productions and opera performances.
After graduating in math, he attended the Liszt Academy of Music, graduating summa cum laude in conducting. He also studied in the State of New York and in Vienna. He participated in different masters courses held by Péter Eötvös, Erwin Ortner, Bertrand de Billy and Daniel Harding.
In the summer of 2014, he received a scholarship from the Bayreuth Festival and attended the event as a guest artist. Right after graduation, he became an assistant conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Besides the Medic Orchestra, he has been leading the Symphonic Orchestra of the Béla Bartók Conservatory. Furthermore, he is creating contemporary and Gesamtkunstwerk arts productions with his orchestra, the Budapest Sound Collective.
Iván Fischer invited him to participate for the first time in the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s summer tour in 2014, and he still regularly works with them as an assistant and conductor. In November 2016, he had the opportunity to conduct the orchestra at the Music Academy for the first time at the first show of the concert series ‘FIÚK’, István Fischer’s series presenting young conductors.
In 2016, he won first prize at the Atlantic Coast Conducting Competition in Portugal. In the summer of 2017, he was invited to the Menuhin Festival held in Gstaad. He has been the principal conductor of the Alba Regia Symphonic Orchestra since 1 January 2018.
