Zsófi Pirók

Zsófia Pirók’s relationship with flamenco begun thanks to her mother, Andrea Lippai, who got to know the genre in 1991, when it did not even exist in Hungary.

As a young artist, from 2004, Zsófia was performing in the FlamenCorazonArteDance Theater Association founded by Andrea Lippai, and since 2008, she has been a soloist and a choreographer assistant there. At the age of 19, she was accepted to the 3rd year of the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza’s flamenco course in Sevilla. She graduated as a flamenco dance artist in 2013 as the first foreign student in the university’s history.

In the next four years, while she continued her studies in Andalusia, she had numerous performances in different flamenco clubs, theaters and cultural centers in Sevilla. Debuting in Sevilla in 2013, her first individual show was Colores de Mujer (Colours of the woman). As the winner of the Viktor Fülöp Dance Artist Scholarship in the creative artist category in 2014, she created a solo show entitled Suspiros  – Sighs whose premier was organized by the Hungarian National Dance Theater. Zsófia was invited to perform this show in Madrid at the Flamencos y Otras Aves flamenco festival as the sole dance production. In 2015 and 2016 it she had a huge success in a national and in an international tour.

In 2016, she was awarded the title of Best New Dancer of the Year by the Hungarian Dancers’ Association, which she received on the International Dance Day at MÜPA Budapest.

“For me, dance is the poetry of the body, the painting of music, and the breath of rhythms. A perfect balance between concentration and spontaneous improvisation” – Zsófia Pirók
