Compagnie Pal Frenak

Compagnie Pal Frenak

Winner of various Hungarian and international prizes, choreographer Pál Frenák founded his first dance group in 1989 in France. Ten years later, in 1999, he expanded the Compagnie Pal Frenak with young Hungarian dancers, transforming it into a Hungarian-French company based in Paris and Budapest that defined a unique new dance language.

The company’s work is characterized by an emphasis on mimics, sign language, and the integrated use of body movements as well as the inclusion of co-genres, such as circus, theatre, contemporary fashion, design, architecture and contemporary music, in the creation of dance. Pál Frenák brought a radically new style to the Hungarian dance scene with his universe of dynamic movements, new kind of sensitivity and with forms of expression that are beyond verbal messages. His innovative use of space and body had a determining impact on the improvement of Hungarian contemporary dance.

Besides their intensive and prolific creative activity, the company regularly holds professional workshops and initiatory performances for high-school students as well as attending audience meet-ups and professional talks, placing great emphasis on a continuous dialogue with other artistic branches and the public.
