Balázs Csémy

Balázs Csémy, actor, Imre Soós Prize-laureate 

Balázs Csémy was born in 1985 in Slovakia. After graduating from high-school, he did film studies in Canada  at the York University in Toronto, then he studied acting at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. His earned his masters  from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

He is currently a freelance actor; he regularly performs as a guest artist at the Hungarian National Opera. He enjoys working in musical theatre productions and voice acting, too. In recent years he has been working with the József Katona Theatre in Kecskemét, the Orlai Production and the Pinceszínház in Budapest as well as in independent theatre productions.

He has been a main cast member in the comedy series Tóth János for two years. He took roles in Hungarian and English short films, and he often participates in international productions. He played supporting roles in the series  Alatriste, Neandertaler, The Last Kingdom, X-Company, and Strike Back as well as in the English feature film Colette. He worked on the English short film The Puppeteer as a casting director.

He was invited to the Berlinale Talents and the Sarajevo Talents film actor scholarship programs, where he could learn from internationally recognized lecturers.

This autumn he is going on tour with the Hungarian State Opera. He is playing Mario in János Vajda’s opera adaptation of Mario and the Magician at the Lincoln Center in New York.

He is currently learning German, and commuting between Budapest and Berlin.
